Rediscover the breath of the 60s...
"A mouthpiece with a supple, singing character, capable of infinite nuances - from the velvet of ballads to the cutting edge of an energetic chorus."
The is our passionate tribute to one of the most legendary mouthpieces in the history of the tenor saxophone: the Otto Link Tone Edge Florida "no-USA", manufactured in the early '60s. This mouthpiece was nicknamed “Slant” because of the slanted brand name. Renowned for its exceptional balance of warmth, projection and lyricism, this mythical mouthpiece shaped the sound of giants like Stan Getz, and continues to inspire modern generations with artists like Mark Turner.
The sound is broad and grainy like the Florida Metal, thanks to their very similar chambers; but thanks to its natural German ebonite of the best quality in the world and its larger-than-metal size, the Florida Slant leans towards a sweeter, woodier sound. What struck me most when I played the first Florida Slant was its free blowing and its ability to be lyrical and expressive in any situation immediately. It was essential for me to achieve this with this reproduction. I was immediately able to recapture that melancholy lyricism in the Stan Getz-style broad, unhurried high notes, and achieve the clearer, purer sound characteristic of Mark Turner.
The Florida Slant is very homogeneous across the entire range of the instrument, in every nuance. This mouthpiece really lets you shape your own sound, and gives the feeling of following you in whatever you want to play. It's also compatible with all your reeds, thanks to its perfectly flat top. The dynamic range is quite impressive and extensive for an ebonite mouthpiece. Highs and lows are easy to achieve in both direct and sub-tones...
Made to the highest standards in our workshop in France, each Florida Slant mouthpiece is carefully designed to reproduce the feeling, response and timbre of the original models, down to the smallest detail.
Available in the world's highest-quality German ebonite:
- Black: traditional look and balanced sound
- Marbled Green-Black: original look and more complex, warmer sound.
The Florida Slant is sold as new, already traditionally hand-finished by Philippe, inspected and tested before shipment, guaranteeing the highest level of finish and incomprable playability to recreate the magic of this iconic mouthpiece while ensuring modern manufacturing consistency.
Treat yourself to an exceptional musical experience thanks to the superior craftsmanship and sound of the Florida Slant - Ebonite Tenor Sax model.
