With the Autantic, I wanted to create a mouthpiece that could sound as traditional as Stan Getz, Hank Mobley... and as modern as Joshua Redman, Mark Turner, or Joël Frahm.
For its design/geometry, I used measurements taken on the most sought-after Otto-link mouthpieces. In the Autantic there's the best of Slant Signature (50's-60's) and early Babbitt (70's). This isn't a copy of a vintage mouthpiece, it's a craftsman's mouthpiece that could have been produced in Otto Link's best years.
Features:
- Baffle: Low, medium length in typical arc shape. Mirror polished finish.
- Rails: Thin
- Chamber: Medium-large
- Walls: Rounded
- Table : Perfectly flat (better compatibility with a larger number of reeds)
- Options : Customized opening/Facing (+30€)
Very supple and expressive, the sound is big and concentrated like a vintage Otto Link. At low volume you can get a soft, warm, almost crystalline sound, and at high volume you can get beautiful grain with excellent power for ebonics. The sound is homogeneous and coherent throughout the tessitura, always retaining excellent, well-guided accuracy and the same richness. The highs are easy and accurate for a low baffle mouthpiece, and the lows very easy in direct or subtone sound. The true Otto Link vintage ebonite sound, with ease of playing to boot!
The result is a mouthpiece with the highest degree of precision: I use natural German ebonite of the highest quality. Each mouthpiece is machined in France, and hand-finished to order, played and tested before shipping. The finish is "mirror polished" by hand. Finally, I send each mouthpiece protected by a velvet pouch in its own case.
